Sprouts Farmers Market is a step closer to opening on Post Road East. Westport’s Architectural Review Board approved the facade for the grocer’s planned store at 1460 Post Road East on Aug. 25, the Westport Journal reported. The building’s current tenants are BevMax and Julian’s.
The application goes next to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
The board’s chair, Ward French, was frank about the starting point. “We’re dealing with a quintessential ‘80s block building,” he said.
A busy stretch of the Post Road
Commercial property along the Post Road has been active this year. A month before the Sprouts approval, a developer presented a pre-application for a two-story indoor sports facility at 1431 Post Road East that would replace Izzo & Son Country Gardens. Downtown, the Feil Organization bought 2-14 Post Road East for $5.15 million. Our commercial ledger tracks the year’s deals.
Under the state’s new housing law, small residential projects on commercial lots no longer have to meet parking minimums, but Westport created two traffic mitigation districts along the Post Road and downtown in July to keep some standards in place.
