A two-story indoor sports facility could replace three long-running businesses on Post Road East. At its July 27 meeting, the Planning and Zoning Commission heard a pre-application for 1431 Post Road East, a 1.74-acre site, the Westport Journal reported.
The plan would displace Izzo & Son Country Gardens, which has been in business for 64 years, along with Furniture on Consignment and the restaurant Bar Lupa. The land-use planner Rick Redniss presented the proposal.
What a pre-application is
A pre-application is an informal presentation that lets an applicant hear commissioners’ reactions before filing. Nothing is approved at that stage, and plans often change. A formal application would come back to Planning and Zoning for a public hearing.
The same night, Redniss presented a second pre-application, for nine residences at 34 Imperial Avenue, which drew a sharper response.
The corridor
The site is also on Post Road East, like the BevMax building at 1460 Post Road East, where Sprouts Farmers Market has cleared design review. Retail and service uses along Post Road East are changing hands, and our commercial ledger keeps track.
